  • Im Focusing On This Game Like Im Making My Test Debut Says Stuart Broad

I'm focusing on this game, like I'm making my Test debut, says Stuart Broad

When a player usually makes their debut, the aim is to sustain and contribute to the team in the longer run. But would the same mindset apply to a player who is making a comeback?

This tale is of a comeback and possible redemption that will be told for years to come. And yes, we are talking about England's premier Right-handed, extravagant quickie - Stuart Broad.

Stuart Broad and his partner-in-crime, James Anderson, were dropped from England's National team while touring West Indies earlier this year. But the "fine-like-wine" pacers are set to make a comeback in the ongoing Test series against the Kiwis at the majestic Lord's Stadium starting 2nd June.

Stuart Broad has decided to approach his England recall with the attitude of the debutant, so there is no temptation to look too far ahead and plan for the future. Broad has played 152 Tests for England and is their second-highest wicket-taker ever.

He and the man at the top of that list, James Anderson, were controversially left out of March's tour of the Caribbean but have been recalled.

As the two pacers enter the English dressing room, a lot has changed in the back-end & the front-end of the team. Joe Root is no longer the skipper of the side, and Brendon McCullum is the new head - coach.

Broad, who will be 36 by the time this series ends, promised to "leave his heart and soul on the field", not thinking about what comes next. "I'm fine," he said on Tuesday. "I'm very forward-focused and excited to be here at Lord's. I'm going in with the mindset to attack each week and leave my heart and soul on the field,"

"I'm taking my mindset back to as if I've played zero Test cricket and have zero experience. You don't look too far ahead when you make your Test debut, you're just excited to play the next game,"

"I just want to feel fresh and attack the strategy at Lord's, leave my heart and soul on this field, and move on,"

"I've gone away completely from looking at what's going to happen in August or November. I can't control that. It's too far away. I'm just going to give everything for one week of the Test match, try and win that week, learn from it and move on to the next one."

The lead-up to the 1st Test between England & New Zealand is surrounded by rounds of news with a negative tone. Ticket sales have not been up to the mark lately at Lord's, which is a worrying sign for Test cricket. Many reasons are speculated, but primarily the ticket prices seem to be an issue.

Moreover, England will enter the series with a half-fuelled bowling tank where Anderson & Broad will be making comebacks, Matt Potts receiving his debut cap & Jack Leach managing the spin attack.
