Suryakumar Yadav leading India vs Bangladesh - (Source: AFP)
In a significant development, there are reports that Suryakumar Yadav attended a meeting with the ICC match referee, Richie Richardson, and the India skipper might be handed a fine or a demerit point for his actions against Pakistan.
The issue started with SKY's post-match comments against Pakistan, which led to some objectionable gestures by Pakistan players during super four match. The controversy led to both boards lodging complaint against each other to the ICC.
Suryakumar Yadav Attends Meeting With ICC Match Referee
A report from Revsportz mentioned that the ICC match referee issued a warning to Suryakumar Yadav for dedicating India's group-stage win against Pakistan to the Pahalgam victims. Further, SKY is likely to be handed a demerit point or a fine. However, Indian fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the International Cricket Council is unlikely to hand a match ban to the India skipper.
BCCI COO Hemang Amin and Cricket Operations Manager Sumeet Mallapurkar accompanied Suryakumar in the meeting, and while the official decision is still pending, SKY, at most, is likely to attract a 15% match fee fine or a single demerit point as mentioned by Abhishek Tripathi.
What Happened To Haris Rauf And Sahibzada Farhan's Gestures against India?
Notably, not only was Suryakumar Yadav in trouble, as the BCCI too had lodged a complaint against Pakistan's Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their objectionable gestures against India. Their meeting with the ICC match referee is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 26.
The meeting didn't take place today as Pakistan are busy playing their last group-stage match against Bangladesh. However, the ICC doesn't need to let go of Farhan and Rauf with the same warning as SKY, and a heavier penalty is expected because of their provocative gestures.
