ICC thanks CWI and T20 USA for a successful T20 WC [x.com]
The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Wednesday, July 3, issued a media release thanking Cricket West Indies (CWI) and T20 USA Inc. for successfully hosting the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup in the month of June.
The T20 World Cup 2024 ended on June 29 with India lifting the trophy after 17 years in Kensington Oval, Barbados was held during the period between June 1 to June 29 with 55 matches being played across the 9 venues in the USA and the Caribbean.
The group stage started at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas and was played in both, the USA and West Indies across all nine locations -- Providence Stadium, Guyana; Bridgetown, Barbados; Nassau County, New York; Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua; Central Broward Stadium, Lauderhill; Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago; and Daren Sammy Stadium, St. Lucia.
The focus then shifted to 6 venues in the Caribbean where the remainder of the tournament, i.e., the Super Eights, Semi-Final, and the Final were played.
The ICC chairperson, Greg Barclay, congratulated the two hosts for the smooth conduct of the biggest-ever T20 World Cup with 20 teams, helping the game grow in the different parts of the world with a high amount of interest.
"I'd like to thank Cricket West Indies and T20 USA, Inc. for delivering a World Cup that was a true carnival celebration of action-packed cricket. Thank you must also go to the Match Officials and to the ICC staff for delivering such a successful event," said Greg Barclay.
He also thanked the 20 teams for their efforts throughout the tournament for putting in some incredible games for the spectators while congratulating India and South Africa for the box-office final in Barbados to conclude the T20 mega-event.
