ICC Announces Record-Breaking Turn Out For World Cup 2023

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday (November 11) confirmed a record-breaking spectator turn-out for the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 after the millionth fan crossed over the gates to keep the marquee tournament on track as the most-attended ICC event ever. 

As per the ticket count, the one-millionth fan attended the World Cup 2023 when he stepped inside the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (November 10) for Match 42 of the league stage between South Africa and Afghanistan. 

Notably, the tournament has reached such a humongous crowd presence with still another six matches, including the two marquee semifinals and the final, left to be attended by crowds based in India and tourists flying from across the globe. 


ICC Confirms One Million Turn Out For World Cup 2023 

Chris Tetley, the ICC Head of Events, underlined the grand success that the World Cup 2023 has been in showcasing the best of One-Day Internationals cricket and felt pleased to see the tournament on track to achieve unprecedented turn up, on its way to becoming the most attended ICC event in history. 

"With over one million attendees and record-breaking viewership, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has reminded cricket fans around the world of the support and interest in the ODI format that highlights how much World Cup cricket is valued," Tetley said in a statement. 

"As we look ahead to the knockout stages, we look forward to this event breaking more records and showcasing the best about cricket in one day."

BCCI secretary Jay Shah greeted the development with open arms and highlighted how Indian cricket board's "vision" as the World Cup 2023 hosts has been accomplished as they continue working with the ICC in organising a successful tournament. 

"Our vision was to make this World Cup the greatest ever and I am truly delighted that we have broken all previous records," Shah tweeted. "My sincere thanks to our devoted fans, the State Associations and every stakeholder who worked tirelessly in the run-up to this mega event."
