The inevitable has happened and Pakistan have lost their star opener, Fakhar Zaman to injury. The batter, on Thursday was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to an injury which he suffered during the opening match of the tournament against New Zealand on February 19.
The opening batter suffered an injury during the first over of the tournament when he gave a chase to a ball struck by Will Young and injured his ankle while trying to stop the ball. He was taken off the field, but came back soon onto the field.
However, due to the ICC policies, he wasn't allowed to open the batting and instead, he came at number 4 and struggled to run as he got dismissed cheaply. After the match, he wobbled out of the field and looked in discomfort as the batter was seeing crying in the dressing room.
Forgotten opener, Imam-ul-Haq replaced him in the squad and is likely to open Vs India in Pakistan's next match.
How long will Fakhar Zaman be out?
Fakhar Zaman had a side strain and was ruled out of the entire tournament immediately. Normally, a side strain takes upto 4-6 weeks to recover, however, in certain cases depending on the severity of the injury, the injury can take longer to heal.
As per Geo News, former Pakistan star, Mohammad Amir on Thursday revealed that he contacted Fakhar after the injury, and as per Fakhar, he could be out for a period of two months.
After the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will travel to New Zealand, for a white-ball series and the star opener is likely to miss that series for his nation. However, he is likely to be fit for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is set to begin on April 10.
