Shaheen Afridi has built a reputation as one of the most lethal new-ball bowlers in modern cricket. The Pakistan phenomena has a unique record to his name with a total of 9 wickets taken in first over bowled in the ODI format, entering an elite list of Pakistan legends.

When Afridi made his debut for Pakistan as a teenager, he earned a lot of praise for his express pace and ability to swing both ways. Soon, he has made the first over a nightmare for batters across all formats.

From getting out Rohit Sharma in the first over in the T20 World Cup to dismissing Will Young in a recent ODI game, Afridi’s dominance with the new ball in the powerplay remains unmatched.

Afridi’s latest victim was Will Young. In the first ODI game against New Zealand, Pakistan bowled first with Shaheen Afridi silencing his doubters to dismiss Young on the fourth ball of his first over.

The ball pitched on a length and slightly outside off, tempted Young into a tentative poke. The resulting edge flew to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who completed a sharp catch to his right.

Afridi previously became the first bowler to pick 50 wickets in the first over in all forms of T20 cricket.
