The Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to start on 19th of February and all teams have announced their squad for the mega event. The hosts, Pakistan was the last nation to reveal their arsenal and the announcement of squad has also started the debate around Pakistan's opening pair for the event.
The answers for those questions were likely to be revealed during the tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand, but it seems that Rizwan, the skipper of the sides does not believe in keeping things private for a long time. In the press conference, ahead of the tri-series opener against New Zealand, Rizwan was asked about who will open with Fakhar Zaman in the upcoming games.
Mohammad Rizwan's Reveals Pakistan's Opening Pair Ahead Of Tri-Series Opener
Rizwan waited for few seconds and then replied indirectly by using Hasan Ali's famous statement - 'King Kar Lega.' Babar Azam is called as the King in Pakistan and his statement implies that Babar will open with Fakhar Zaman in tri-series and Champions Trophy 2025. If he has stated it on a serious note, then it means that Babar Azam will open for Pakistan in ODIs for the first time since 2015, and it will be quite a bold move.
Babar Azam traditionally bats at number 3 for Pakistan in ODIs and has been pretty successful at that position and it would be interesting to see how he goes about his business as an opener. The move to bring Babar Azam at the top of the order has been forced on Pakistan due to Saim Ayub's injury, and lack of confidence in the quality of other openers like Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq.
