Team India, under Harmanpreet Kaur, trounced the visiting Australians by eight wickets in their one-off Test match at the Wankhede Stadium. The win marked their second in succession, considering India Women also handed their English counterparts a 347-run larruping last week in Navi Mumbai.

On the backdrop of India’s emphatic win against the world’s number one Test side, former cricketer Anjum Chopra questioned a news publication that credited ex-skipper Mithali Raj for team’s recent results.

Anjum Chopra takes a dig at publication

Moments after India Women opener Smriti Mandhana hit the winning runs against Australia, former ‘Women in Blue’ captain Mithali Raj took to X (formerly Twitter) and praised Harmanpreet Kaur and co. for their commanding performance.

Raj congratulated the Indian team for defeating Australia for the first time in Tests, and also praised bowlers Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar for their efforts. A prominent news publication reshared her post, and credited the former cricketer for “paving the way” for India’s historic win against Australia.

Mithali Raj’s ex-teammate Anjum Raj took note of the post, and asked the publication to clarify their praise for the former Indian captain. Dropping a one-word response, Raj simply wrote:

“How?”

Regardless, Team India will now face Australia Women in a three-match ODI series, set to be played between December 28 and January 2 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The two teams will subsequently set base at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 5 for three T20I matches to conclude their month-long home season.
