How Can Shubman Gill Regain His Form in 4th T20I vs West Indies? Ex-Indian Opener Explains

Three, seven, and six; these are Shubman Gill's scores in the ongoing five-match T20I series against the West Indies. We do not see this very often, do we? What should be done to get him back to full strength for India's crucial fourth T20I match against the West Indies on Saturday, August 12?

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer carefully observed Gill's technique in the previous three T20Is. In order for Gill to get back to his usual best, Jaffer believes the 23-year-old needs to stop "being a bit too defensive" on top.

The legendary Mumbai batter also emphasised Yashasvi Jaiswal's natural ability to bat aggressively and the advantages that a good-old Gill could provide for Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, who were on fire in India's stunning seven-wicket victory over the hosts in the third T20I.

'Gill is being a bit too defensive'- Wasim Jaffer

"We have spoken about how important it is for the openers to get off to a good start in the powerplay and give players like Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma a good platform. But they won't be worried about it as they will know they need to show intent straightaway. Jaiswal will bat with aggressive intent and I feel Shubman Gill is being a bit too defensive. If he gets 2-3 good shots straightaway then that could make a huge difference," Jaffer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Gill was in incredible form in IPL 2023. He amassed 890 runs overall at an incredible strike rate of 157.80 to help the Gujarat Titans advance to their second straight final.

Will he follow Jaffer's advice and go ballistic in Lauderhill to help India level the series? Time will tell.
