Hong Kong Sixes 2024 is returning with its latest seasons after a seven-year-long gap. The six-a-side tournament will feature 13 teams and will be played between November 1-3 in Hong Kong.
The unique format tournament will feature India, Pakistan, Australia, Hong Kong, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman and Bangladesh. All the games will be played at Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground in Hong Kong, China.
This Hong Kong Sixes tournament differs from the traditional one as it has only six players per side competing in a five-inning per side contest. Batters are not allowed to bat after a certain score, with wide and no-balls accounting for two runs. Several other laws of cricket have also been tweaked to add more entertainment to the event.
On that note, let’s explore some key factors of the Hong Kong Sixes 2024 edition.
Hong Kong Sixes 2024: Format
- Each team will bat for five innings each, with six players taking the field.
- No bowler is allowed to bowl more than 1 over.
- Wide and no-balls will account for 2 runs
- If a batter reaches 31 runs, he will have to retire ‘not out’ and can only come back after his entire team is dismissed.
- Interestingly, if the team loses all of its five wickets, the left-alone batter will be allowed to bat. He will be accompanied by a permanent non-striker to help with running between the wickets. Hence, each team has to dismiss all 6 batters to bowl out the opposition.
