The fourth match of the ongoing 10th season of the Women’s Big Bash League will be played between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder at the Bellerive Oval on October 28. Following a triple-header opening day, only a solitary match will be played on Monday.
One of the three franchises to have never lifted the silverware in the WBBL, Hurricanes couldn’t have got a better start than winning T20 Spring Challenge a week ago. Having failed to qualify for the playoffs since BBL 2, Hobart wouldn’t want to waste their rich current form.
One of the four franchises to have won the WBBL twice, Thunder have doubtlessly achieved a lot more in the tournament. However, taking their last two seasons into account, finishing among the last two teams means that immense improvement needs to be made for them as well.
HH-W vs ST-W Head To Head
Historically, Sydney Thunder have had the upper hand over Hobart Hurricanes in the Women's Big Bash League. Hurricanes, however, have emerged as the victorious side four times in a row in recent times. As far as playing in the month of October is concerned, they have won thrice in comparison to the opposition's lone win.
Speaking particularly about the Bellerive Oval, both the teams have defeated each other once each. It is noteworthy that HH-W and ST-W will be locking horns at this particular stadium for the first time since WBBL 2016-2017.

HH-W vs ST-W: What happened when they last played?
While the last match between these two teams was abandoned without a ball being bowled, the penultimate one had resulted in a 24-run victory for Hobart in Launceston.
Right after winning the toss and electing to bat first, captain Elyse Villani and opener Lizelle Lee had put together a 68-run opening stand. In what was the third-highest individual score by a HH-W batter at the time, Lee had scored a match-winning 91 (54) with the help of 12 fours and two sixes.
At a strike rate of 168.51, her innings, however, was accompanied by a controversy. Lee had only scored a dozen of runs when she received a massive reprieve due to the absence of a technology as basic as the third umpire. The South African batter was comfortably stumped but the opposition was denied a wicket which laid the foundation of a loss.
Despite a spirited half-century by Phoebe Litchfield, Thunder fell short of the target to lose their first match of the season.
