The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) slumped to a rare defeat this Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season at the hands of cellar-dwellers Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday. Chasing 207 runs to win at Hyderabad, the ‘Orange Army’ managed to list just 171-8 from their 20 overs to fall 35 runs short of their target.

SRH’s in-form opener Travis Head, who had previously expressed his desire of wanting to score a 300-plus team total, himself was dismissed for just a run to his name in the first over of the run-chase.

Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has now taken a sly dig at Australian-based opener after the SRH franchise failed to chase down 207 in familiar home conditions.

Herschelle Gibbs trolls Travis Head for SRH failure

After SRH slumped to 35-run defeat to RCB at Hyderabad, former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs countered Travis Head’s ‘300-run’ claims with a playful banter on social media.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gibbs claimed that instead of ambitioning about scoring 300, chasing 207 on a slower wicket like Hyderabad against RCB would have been “just as skilful.”

The SRH franchise has already conjured three scores of 250 or more this IPL 2024 season, which included the record IPL total of 287 runs at Bengaluru against RCB on April 15.

Travis Head tonked a 41-ball 102 in the high-scoring game to be adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’.

Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the ‘Orange Army’ has so far secured five wins from just eight IPL 2024 fixtures and are currently placed at number three position on the 10-team IPL 2024 points table

They will now face defending champions CSK on April 28 at Chennai in match number 46 of the tournament.
