Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has emerged to be one of the top draws of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. As per reports, during his sizzling cameo against Mumbai Indians (MI) earlier this month, more than 6 crores viewers tuned into their television sets, thus shattering several viewership records.

At various stages of the tournament, the sound created by roaring crowds at all IPL 2024 venues has even surpassed 100 decibels at the time of Dhoni’s arrival to the crease.

Capitalising on the cricketer’s perpetual popularity, a new scam has emerged on social media, where fraudsters pose as the legendary CSK wicketkeeper-batter to con some of his die-hard fans.

Amidst the ongoing IPL 2024 season, an online scam recently came to attention where a fraudster impersonating as MS Dhoni on Instagram can be seen asking his fans for monetary help. One user shared the screenshot of a personalized message on X (formerly Twitter).

The post has already garnered over three lakh views, thus helping bring awareness to unaware social media users who also happen to be a fan of the CSK legend.

MS Dhoni, meanwhile, is currently in Chennai to prep for Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) upcoming match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise. The much-awaited contest will be staged at the Chepauk Stadium on April 28.

So far this IPL 2024 season, Dhoni has bashed 91 runs at a staggering strike-rate of 260. Last month, the cricketer relinquished his CSK captaincy in favor of rising star Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Under the leadership of Gaikwad, the CSK franchise is currently placed at number five on the IPL 2024 points table.
