The World Test Championship (WTC) finale is approaching thick and fast as we are on the last leg of the 2023-25 WTC cycle. At the moment, there are four teams in the race to reach the big finale, which will take place in June 2025.
India, South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka are in the race to reach the finals, and all of them have a great shot of playing at the Lord's. The WTC points table is also getting heated up with the Proteas at the top, followed by the Aussies and India at third place.
At the moment, India is playing against Australia, while South Africa are up against Pakistan team, and interestingly, the South Africa Vs Pakistan 1st Test result cam have positive affect on India's WTC finale chances.
How the SA Vs PAK Test match will help India's chances?
Currently, South Africa are playing against the Asian giants in a two-match Test series, with the first match taking place at Centurion. The first two days went smoothly, but the third day is witnessing heavy rainfall which has affected the match.
There is rain predicted for Day 4 and 5 and that is actually a good news for India. If the entire match is abandoned, the first Test will be a drawn affair, which means that if India win the MCG Test and the next one at SCG, they'll have a really good shot of reaching the finals.
An abandoned game at Centurion would mean that the Proteas will have to beat Pakistan in the second Test match, however, since they are in a pole position in the ongoing first Test match, a rain-washout game will ruin their chances of reaching the finals.
If India win both the matches, then Australia's task will also be difficult, since they need to beat Sri Lanka, 2-0 to have any chance of qualifying for the WTC finale.
