In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the surfaces used for the recently concluded Test series against India and England. The track dished out for the first Test at Headingley received a 'very good' rating, while pitches at Edgbaston, Lord's and Old Trafford were deemed satisfactory by the apex body.

England Pitches Receive Decent Ratings From ICC Despite Run-Fest

The pitches in the Test series between India and England witnessed truckloads of runs by players from both sides. The fact that nine players across both teams breached the 400-run mark signified the batting-friendly nature of the English pitches.

However, despite making the bowlers toil to get breakthroughs, the tracks produced excellent Test matches, with each game going to the fifth day for a fitting finish. While England chased down a whopping total at Headingley, India bounced back at Edgbaston, winning the contest by 336 runs.

The third Test at Lord's produced a memorable Test match for the ages, with Mohammed Siraj's dramatic dismissal sealing England's thrilling victory. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were instrumental for the drawn affair in Manchester, where India avoided an innings defeat through sheer grit and determination.

Therefore, as the tour involved a fiery contest between bat and ball in all five Tests, the ICC has expressed its satisfaction over the tracks at the venues for the first four Tests. The development was brought to the notice by renowned TOI journalist Gaurav Gupta, who also claimed that the governing body has yet to rate the pitch for the fifth Test at Kennington Oval.

It's worth mentioning that, as per the ICC's current rating system, the pitches on a particular tour can be categorised as very good, satisfactory, unsatisfactory, and unfit, depending on how they play during the match.
