On October 27, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia. Among the players returning are Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, all of whom had taken a break during the final two Tests against England. However, it’s notable that these star players will also be rested for the Zimbabwe tour. While the squad has been announced, the captaincy for these tours has not yet been announced. This has raised a significant question: who will take Babar Azam's place?

In recent days, speculation has intensified regarding Mohammad Rizwan's likelihood to lead the side. As per the reports, PCB is poised to appoint Rizwan as the captain. This decision follows Babar Azam's resignation from his captaincy position earlier this month.

Babar Azam Resigns From Pakistan's White-Ball Captaincy

Babar Azam ended his first captaincy stint after a disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, where Team Pakistan failed to advance beyond the group stage. Babar was also reappointed earlier this year ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024; however, his second tenure was marked by struggles and inconsistencies, leading to yet another resignation.

It has also been stated that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will soon announce the new white-ball captain in a press conference, and the cricketing world eagerly awaits confirmation. Will Mohammad Rizwan take over the reins, or is there another surprise in store? This move will significantly impact the team's dynamics and performance in the upcoming series.
