Fast-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has been added to India’s Test squad for the upcoming five-match Test series in England, as per reports. He was already in England with the India ‘A’ team, playing practice matches against the England Lions and India’s Test squad.
According to a report by Jagran News, the team management decided to include Rana in the squad mainly because Jasprit Bumrah may not play all five Tests, and they wanted to have an extra pace option ready.
India already have strong fast bowlers like Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh, and adding Rana has further strengthened the pace attack.
India Likely To Play With 5 Bowlers
The report also mentioned that India might play the first Test with five specialist bowlers, four fast bowlers and one spinner. If this happens, it means India may not pick any all-rounder in the playing XI.
With Harshit Rana’s inclusion, the Indian squad now has 19 players in total.
Abhishek Tripathi's Tweet Translation:

Rana played one match against the England Lions in Canterbury, where he took 1 wicket for 99 runs and scored 16 runs.
The 23-year-old all-rounder had earlier made his Test debut in Australia, picking up 4 wickets in total, with his best figures being 3/48 in Perth. He was initially left out of the England series when the selectors chose Akash Deep, Arshdeep, and Prasidh Krishna over him. But now, with the updated squad, he has got another chance.
In 13 first-class matches, Rana has taken 48 wickets at an average of 27.79. He’s also handy with the bat, averaging 32.80, with a century and two fifties to his name.
India, led by Shubman Gill, is aiming to win its first Test series in England since 2007. The five-match series, starting on June 20, will also be India’s first series in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
