Foakes faces drastic on-field collision with Overton, but takes field back after passing concussion test

In the latest turn of events, England's wicketkeeper, Ben Foakes, who saw a dramatic on-field collision with teammate Jamie Overton, returned to don the wicketkeeping gloves on Sunday (April 24).

The English wicketkeeper was able to walk off the field with help from Alex Tysoe, the lead physio and took 10 minutes of treatment after the nasty collision.

The incident saw Foakes diving to his right to take a catch to dismiss Tom Banton off Reece Topley's bowling, while Jamie Overton dived to his left at first slip, which saw Foakes hit in the head by the slip fielder's shoulder.

Foakes didn't sustain any serious injuries as he passed the concussion test and was allowed to retake the field in the County Championship game against Somerset at the Kia Oval.

Notably, this was the second time in this year that the Surrey wicketkeeper has suffered an injury at The Oval.

Last May, after Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler were rested due to their involvement in the IPL, Foakes was expected to make his home Test debut against New Zealand, but he slipped in the Surrey dressing-room at the Oval and pulled his hamstring, which saw him getting ruled out for four months.

The return of the wicketkeeper is an excellent sign for both Surrey and England, with the Test summer now being just less than six weeks away. Foakes has started this domestic season blazingly and is looking in good form with the bat.
