Team India demoralized New Zealand Women to qualify for the semifinals of the 2025 World Cup on the basis of ensuring more campaign wins for themselves in the opening round in comparison to fellow contenders. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal racked up scintillating centuries for the hosts, while comeback star Jemimah Rodrigues smeared a whirlwind fifty.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the 24th match of the 2025 Women’s World Cup between India Women and New Zealand Women, as it panned out at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 23.

Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal tons power India to 340

Team India batted first and mounted 340-3 in a revised 49-over innings. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal put up a record 212-run opening stand, with the former raining down 109 runs off just 95 balls with 10 fours and four sixes before falling to Suzie Bates (1-40). Pratika also clattered 122 runs from 134 balls with 13 fours and two sixes to top score in the innings, and became the joint-fastest cricketer in Women’s ODI history to complete 1,000 runs in the process.

Jemimah Rodrigues at number three blasted 76* off 55 balls with 11 boundaries to turbo-charge the Indian innings at the death. For New Zealand, Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr both picked up a wicket each, albeit while conceding more than six runs an over.

Renuka Singh and Kranti Gaud damper NZ with early strikes

Indian fast bowlers Kranti Gaud and Renuka Singh got the new ball moving, as the two speedsters collectively struck thrice within the first 10 overs. While Gaud got rid of Suzie Bates, Renuka knocked over Georgia Plimmer and New Zealand captain Sophie Devine in the space of just a few deliveries as the ‘White Ferns’ slipped to 59-3.

Amelia Kerr at number three chipped in with 45 off 53 balls, and Brooke Halliday top-scored with a near run-a-ball 81. Isabella Gaze blasted 65* off 51 balls with 10 boundaries to lead New Zealand’s recovery, as they reached 271-8 in their revised chase of 325 from 44 overs. For India, new ball bowlers Kranti Gaud and Renuka Singh both picked up two wickets each, while Sneh Rana, Shree Charani, Deepti Sharma and Pratika Rawal all snared a wicket.
