Shubman Gill is just six rating points away from claiming the top spot in the latest ICC ODI Rankings for batsmen. With 823 rating points, the stylish Indian batsman is currently ranked second, behind Babar Azam, who has 829 points.
Babar Azam's World Cup campaign is not going well in India right now. The Men in Green captain's undisputed position, which he has been holding for some time, has been impacted by his scores of 5, 10, 50, 18, and 74 in the ongoing edition.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill is having a year to remember. With five centuries already in the calendar year in the ODIs, Gill averages 66.25, having aggregated 1325. His World Cup performances, though, have not yet reached their peak; following his dengue recovery, he has scored 16, 53, and 26 goals, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue's winning streak has extended to five in this World Cup thanks to the sheer dominance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have also shifted places in the latest rankings. Rohit rose one spot to eighth place, while Kohli dropped two spots to move down to fifth, alongside David Warner.
South Africa's swashbuckling duo Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen, who have been in scintillating form in the World Cup 2023, are on third and fourth places respectively.
