After securing a hard-fought draw in Manchester, India are preparing to take on England in the fifth and final Test of the ongoing series. The much-anticipated encounter will be played at Kennington Oval in London.
The England series has been a memorable one for several Indian players, who eye some elite milestones in the decider, as listed below.
Gill Needs 53 Runs To Go Past Gavaskar
Indian captain Shubman Gill has had a dream series on the current England tour. The stylish right-hander has already raced to 722 runs and needs only 53 runs to become India's most successful batter in a single series.
Notably, Sunil Gavaskar currently holds the record for the highest runs for India in a single series, having struck 774 runs on the 1970-71 West Indies tour. Thus, if Gill scores at least 53 runs across both innings of the Oval Test, he will dethrone the former opener and claim the first position on the list.
KL Rahul Could Become India's Most Successful Opener In England
Karnataka batter KL Rahul has been one of India's most consistent batters in the England Tests. Rahul has enjoyed stellar success on the tour, amassing 511 runs across eight innings.
Interestingly, Rahul has slammed 1108 Test runs in England. He needs only 45 runs to go past Sunil Gavaskar's tally of 1152 runs and become India's most successful opener on English soil. Considering his red-hot form, Rahul is expected to break the record and etch his name in history.
Bumrah Could Become India's Most Successful Bowler In England
Ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah equalled Ishant Sharma, registering the joint-most Test wickets (51) for India in England. If he plays the Oval Test and bags one more wicket, Bumrah will become India's leading wicket-taker on English soil.
Ravindra Jadeja Nears 4000-Run Club
Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has showcased remarkable form in the England Tests. The southpaw has struck 454 runs in four Tests at an average of 113.50.
If he scores 176 runs in both innings combined at The Oval, Jadeja will bring up 4000 runs in Test cricket. If this happens, he will join the rare list of all-rounders with 4000-plus runs and more than 300 Test wickets.
