India are all set to take on England in a five-match Test series starting June 20. This series will mark the beginning of the new World Test Championship cycle (2025–2027) for Team India.

With senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from Test cricket, the responsibility now falls on the young players to step up and prove themselves. This series will be a big test for the next generation of Indian cricketers.

One such player under the spotlight is opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He is expected to open the innings alongside KL Rahul. However, Jaiswal didn’t have the best time in the two unofficial Test matches against the England Lions. In his four innings, he scored 24, 64, 17, and 5 - decent in parts but not very consistent.

On the other hand, his competitors, Abhimanyu Easwaran (India A captain) and KL Rahul, did well. While Easwaran scored back-to-back fifties, Rahul scored a hundred and a fifty in the only match he played.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Gets Advice From Gambhir After Struggles In Practice Games

According to a report by Revsportz, Jaiswal had a serious, animated discussion with India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir during a practice session. The report mentioned that Jaiswal was trying to attack every ball in the nets and kept getting out, which led to Gambhir stepping in to give him a pep talk.

After the conversation, Jaiswal returned to the nets, faced fast bowlers again, and played with much more focus and control, avoiding risky shots.

Even though his recent performances haven’t been great, Jaiswal has had a fantastic start to his Test career. Since making his debut in 2023, he has scored 1798 runs in 19 matches at an average of 52.88, including four centuries and ten fifties. His best performances so far came against England at home, where he scored 712 runs in nine innings, including two hundreds and three fifties.

As India prepare to play a warm-up match against India A starting this Friday in Kent, all eyes will be on Jaiswal to show his form. It will be India’s only practice match before the big Test series.

The five-match Test series will be a 46-day-long, with games scheduled in Leeds (Headingley), Birmingham (Edgbaston), London (Lord’s and The Oval), and Manchester (Old Trafford) in a following manner.
