The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are on the lookout for its next chief selector. Ever since former cricket Chetan Sharma left the role, Shiv Sunder Das has been serving as the acting chief of selector for the board. Das was already one of the members of the team’s selection panel.

As per reports, a member from India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad has been also eyed for the top role.

North Zone’s 2011 WC player eyed for role

The BCCI officials reportedly reached out to some of the big names of Indian cricket following the conclusion of the IPL 2023 season. As per the Indian Express, the board specifically also reached out to a member from India’s 2011 World Cup squad.

Apparently, the board is looking for a batch of former players belonging to the North Zone, someone who has also played over 100 international matches for India.

Some of the 2011 World Cup squad members, who also belong to the North Zone, are Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Ashish Nehra and Harbhajan Singh.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is not looking to make any big changes to India’s Test side, despite their recent defeat to Australia at the 2023 WTC final.

The team will now travel to West Indies next month for an all-format tour, which includes two Tests, three ODIs and five T20I matches. Several new players are slated to get an opportunity in West Indies, while the batting form of Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara will likely be supervised in order to determine their future within the Test team.
