The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has cut its own foot with an axe as Asian giants could land in trouble after the handshake row with the Indian team. A furious Pakistan took some harsh calls after the Asia Cup 2025 game vs India, and their decisions have come back to haunt them with ICC set to punish the Men in Green.

What happened between India and Pakistan?

After India refused to shake hands with Pakistan cricketers, the Men in Green took it personally and approached the ICC, filing an official complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft for not maintaining decorum and allowing India to breach the code of conduct.

The ICC rejected PCB’s plea, and a furious Pakistan team decided to boycott the Asia Cup match before taking a last-minute U-turn.

Why PCB could land in trouble

As per reports by Kushan Sarkar of PTI, the ICC CEO, Sanjog Gupta, fired an email to the PCB for multiple breaches of rules of the Players' Match Officials Area (PMOA) before their clash vs the UAE.

The ICC has demanded an answer from the Pakistan board for violating the game’s code of conduct and the governing body could take serious actions against them.

What code of conduct has ICC violated?

  • As per Article 4.11 of the PMOA, no individual is allowed to carry mobile phones for any reason, whether to access the internet or for any other reason.
  • As per Article 4.22, media managers are allowed to take their phones, but they should be kept on silent mode, and the phone must not be used for any purpose, a clause that the manager breached.
  • As per article 2.2.11, no fixed or temporary video cameras should be placed for the purpose of broadcasting a video or an audio, another clause that was breached as PCB filmed match referee Andy Pycroft, and also used the video without the audio.

As per reports, the PCB media manager wanted to bring his phone inside the premises, and when he was denied, the PCB threatened to boycott the game, as they further violated the PMOA.

Punishments Pakistan cricket can receive from ICC

The ICC will investigate all the protocols breached by the Pakistan team, and if found guilty, the team could be sanctioned with a hefty fine, and if numerous clauses are breached, reportedly, the team could be banned for a brief period.
