Australia are likely to hand a tough job to 25-year-old Nathan McSweeney as he is touted to be the possible replacement of injured Cameron Green. McSweeney is likely to make his debut against India and can script history.

It is worth noting that McSweeney is currently playing for Australia A against India A and has done well for his side.

Notably, McSweeney is captaining Australia A and scored an unbeaten 88 in the second innings and helped his side register a seven-wicket win.

David Warner Backs Nathan To Open For Australia

In the latest events, former Australia opener David Warner also backed McSweeney as the best choice to replace injured Cameron Green and open for Australia against India.

“I know there’s been a lot of commentary around Sam Konstas opening the batting. Yes, he is young, and he did get those hundreds, the back-to-back hundreds. But I also think that McSweeney batting up the top of the order will be a good fit,” he told foxsports.com.au.

Notably, Australia will face India in Border-Gavaskar Trophy for a five-match Test series starting on November 22.

Australia are yet to announce their squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy and they await the final Test between India and Australia A to reveal the list. Cameron Bancroft, Marcus Harris and Sam Konstas are all in contention to make it to the squad.

Recently, Pat Cummins too opened up on the BGT squad and hinted that Marnus Labuschagne might open while, Nathan McSweeney to bat at No.3. Meanwhile, India have announced their squad.
