The much-awaited squad for Asia Cup 2025 will be made public on Tuesday, August 19, when the BCCI selectors meet in Mumbai, which will also see Suryakumar Yadav's presence.

There is a lot of chatter around the 15-member squad as reports have hinted that the fans should be up for a few surprise picks. Amid the debate over the inclusion of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and a few other top superstars, former India opener and part of India's 1983 World Cup winning campaign, Krishnamachari Srikkanth has voiced an unpopular opinion.

Srikkanth Bats For Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Inclusion

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth urged the selectors to pick Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the Asia Cup 2025. Srikkanth slammed the selectors for their remarks that the youngster needs more maturity and stated that if he was the national selector, he would have brought Vaibhav into the side.

Meanwhile, this article will reveal why the 14-year-old cannot be drafted into the Indian team despite the selectors' wish to do so.

Why Vaibhav Cannot Be Part of India's Asia Cup Squad

Vaibhav Suryavanshi cannot play for India's senior team yet because he does not meet the minimum age requirement set by the ICC for international cricket. The ICC has mandated that a player must be at least 15 years old to make their international debut. As of 2025, Vaibhav is 14, and he will turn 15 only on March 27, 2026. The rule was introduced in November 2020.

How Did Suryavanshi Play For RR?

Now the question that is making the noise is how did the BCCI allow Suryavanshi to play for Rajasthan Royals. For the unversed, IPL do not follow ICC's rules and they have no age limit like international cricket.
