Former Indian opener and well-known commentator Aakash Chopra lauded Shakib Al Hasan's exceptional all-round skills, referring to him as the 'Daddy of all-rounders', emphasising his unmatched abilities.
Shakib, the number one ranked ODI all-rounder in the world, is set to lead Bangladesh in the forthcoming Asia Cup and World Cup, marking his return to the helm in the 50-over format, a role he previously held during the 2011 ODI World Cup. Under his guidance, Bangladesh have won 23 and lost 26 ODIs.
Across these 50 games, the left-handed dynamo has impressively amassed 1,547 runs at an average of 35.97. His contribution extends to his left-arm spin, having claimed 68 wickets at an average of 29.23. Notably, his captaincy responsibilities have not compromised his performance, showcasing his exceptional multitasking ability.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra highlighted Shakib's impact as an all-rounder in the last one year in ODIs.
'Shakib Al Hasan is the daddy of all-rounders'- Aakash Chopra
"Shakib Al Hasan is the daddy of all-rounders. He owned the 2019 World Cup, his performance was that good. He has scored 331 runs in nine innings in a fairly decent average. He has scored three half-centuries," Chopra said as quoted by Sportskeeda.
"He has picked up 16 wickets as well. He has an excellent economy of 4.8 and picks up nearly two wickets per match. Everyone else on one side and Shakib Al Hasan on the other,” he added.
Shakib has a stellar record in ODI World Cups, having participated in four editions since 2007 and is set to appear in his fifth. His standout role for Bangladesh was particularly evident in the 2019 World Cup, where he emerged as the team's leading run-scorer.
Across 29 innings in the 50-over World Cups, he compiled 1,146 runs at an average of 45.84, featuring ten fifties and two centuries. A clever operator with the ball, he has claimed 34 wickets, with a best performance of 5/29. With his remarkable all-round capabilities, Shakib remains a pivotal asset for Bangladesh in the upcoming World Cup.
