Former Australian captain Tim Paine is advancing his coaching career significantly. In a recent development, Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed him to a consultancy role, where he will work with the Australia 'A' squad and the national women's team. Paine will concurrently continue as head coach of the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.
Tim Paine Set To Join As 'Consultant'
As per ESPNcricinfo, Tim Paine's new duties commence immediately, leading the Australia 'A' team against Sri Lanka 'A' in July for three one-day matches and two four-day games. Further assignments include guiding Australia 'A' on tours to India (September-October) and against the England Lions later in the year.
Paine brings prior experience from working with Australian development sides. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach under CA’s former national development coach Lachlan Stevens during India 'A''s tour last year.
Ben Oliver, CA Executive General Manager National Teams, highlighted Paine's value.
“We’re looking forward to Tim stepping into the Australia A head coach role this season and building on his involvement in national programs from the past two years. Tim is passionate about supporting the next tier of future Australian players and brings a wealth of contemporary playing and coaching experience to the role," Oliver said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Additionally, for the Sri Lanka 'A' series, Paine will be supported by national pace bowling coach Adam Griffith, women's team assistant coach Scott Prestwidge, and NT Cricket's Trent Keep.
Tim Paine, the former Australia Test captain boasts impressive records in the whites. In his career-wide 35 innings for the Test side, Paine bagged 1534 runs at an average of 32.63 and in white ball cricket too, he boasts 890 runs in ODIs and 1647 runs in T20 cricket.
