BCCI fires entire selection committee after T20 World Cup fiasco

In a major update coming from BCCI headquarters, 5-member selection committee including chairman Chetan Sharma have been sacked by the board following the T20 World Cup disaster in Australia.

The news was confirmed after BCCI invited job applications for the five vacant posts through its website. The release issued stated,

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the position of National Selectors (Senior Men). Candidates who wish to apply for the said position need to fulfil the following criteria for their applications to be considered.

National Selectors (Senior Men)

Positions - 5

Should have played a minimum of

a) 7 Test matches; OR

b) 30 First Class matches; OR

c) 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches.

Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.

No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of Men’s Selection Committee.

Applications should be submitted by 1800 hrs IST on November 28, 2022."

Chetan Sharma, Debashish Mohanty, Harvinder Singh and Sunil Joshi are the ones to be shown the exit door. Previously, Abbey Kuruvilla's tenure wasn't extended by the board and not just this, his replacement wasn't announced either.

India were knocked out by England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 losing by margin of 10 wickets.

Previously, Men in Blue failed to reach the semi-finals in the 2021 event where they crashed out after losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in the group stage.
