In a massive setback for Jammu and Kashmir, big hitter Abdul Samad has been ruled out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy with ligament tear. Not just this, right-arm pacer Sharukh Dar is another casualty to miss out from the tournament due to his shoulder injury sustained while fielding during the game against Punjab.

In their respective places, batter Suryansh Raina and medium pacer Rohit Sharma have been drafted into the squad for the rest of the competition.

Samad was in decent form this season with 154 runs from four innings at an average of 38.50 to go along with two half-centuries in the VHT whereas in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy, he amassed 187 runs from seven innings averaging 46.75, hitting at strike rate of 164.04. Dar, on the other hand, has scalped four wickets from four innings at an economy of 5.26.

Currently, J&K is second on the points table with three wins from four matches in Group D in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Their one loss came against Punjab by eight wickets.

During the recently concluded IPL retention, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Samad for four crores for the 2023 edition.
