One of England cricket's most decorated and celebrated pacers, Stuart Broad, has been awarded a CBE for his services to the sport during King Charles' New Year's Honours.

Broad, 37, retired from international cricket this year after the conclusion of the highly-watched 'The Ashes' in England, ending with 604 Test wickets. Broad finished on a high, claiming Australia's final wicket in England's 49-run win, which helped Ben Stokes and Co. level the five-Test series 2-2.

Broad was earlier awarded an MBE in 2017 and joins former England legend Marcus Trescothick in this dual honour's list. Apart from 167 Tests, Broad featured in 121 ODIs and 56 T20Is, claiming 178 and 65 wickets, respectively, having made his debut back in 2006.

In a statement, Broad, who also played for Nottinghamshire Cricket County Club (NCCC) called the honour "incredibly special".

Here's what Broad said

“All I ever wanted to do was play cricket, and to have had the career that I was able to enjoy and to receive honours like this is incredibly special. I’m very proud that my contributions to cricket have been recognised, and it means a lot to me and my family."

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman Richard Thompson expressed his delight over Broad's achievements being recognised.

“As a whole game we’re absolutely delighted to see Stuart and Marcus honoured in this way. They have been fantastic ambassadors for cricket for many years, and they have played a major role in helping build the profile of our game and in turn bringing more people into our sport. Stuart has long been an inspirational figure and will be remembered as a true great of English cricket, and the spectacular nature of his retirement this summer was the perfect farewell."

Earlier in September, the Pavilion End at Trent Bridge was renamed after Broad, honouring his stellar career.
