The year of 2024 has Joe Root written all over it. England's Joe Root has entered the record books yet again as he surpassed India's legendary Sachin Tendulkar to claim the top spot on the list of batters with the most number of runs in the 4th innings of Test cricket. He achieved this feat during the first Test between England and New Zealand which they eventually won by eight wickets.
England Defeats New Zealand in First Test
With England chasing a target of around 100 runs at the series opener, it was Joe Root who played a vital knock, scoring 23 not out off 15 balls, including three fours and a six. Root's quickfire innings ensured England won handsomely and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

Joe Root tops the list with the most centuries in cricket in 2024, further solidifying himself as one of the game's most consistent batters. Root has scored five hundreds in 14 matches this season, garnering 1,338 runs at a phenomenal average of 58.17 and a strike rate of 61.01.
His consistency across the formats shows how the one of the Fab Four batter adapts to any condition and performs accordingly. Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka also shares the top spot with Root. He has scored five centuries in 30 matches, posting an excellent average of 53.80 and a strike rate 76.76.
