Ben Stokes-led England are all set to take on Pakistan in the three-match Test series starting from October 7 at the Multan Cricket Stadium. It is a high-profile series and the home team Pakistan are under immense pressure to produce positive results after their humiliating loss to Bangladesh. England, on the other hand, whitewashed Pakistan when they were in the country last time around and would be looking to repeat the same feat this time around.
There is doubt over Ben Stokes' availability for the first Test as he is reportedly still recovering from his hamstring injury. However, the English skipper is keeping himself busy ahead of the game and has been seen playing golf in Multan. His teammate and fellow all-rounder Chris Woakes was seen also playing golf and ahead of the opening Test, the English side seems pretty relaxed and confident.
Chris Woakes Likely To Play If Stokes Misses Out
If Ben Stokes does not risk himself in the opening Test, Ollie Pope will lead England. Pope recently led England against Sri Lanka in the three-match Test series which they won by a 2-1 margin. Also, Ben Stokes is likely to make his comeback as an all-rounder as he has been seen both batting and bowling in nets. If Stokes does not play the opening game, Woakes would have to take extra responsibility and could play in the opening game. For Pakistan, the series is even more important as Shan Masood, the skipper of the side may lose his captaincy if they end up failing against England.
The poor form of players like Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafique and Shaheen Afridi is also under the scanner, and it would be interesting to see how things shape up with two quality international teams going head-to-head.
