ENG-W vs SA-W | 3rd ODI | Beaumont’s masterclass helps England maul South Africa by 109 runs

England women defeated their South African counterparts in the third ODI at Leicester on Monday night, riding on a sparkling ton from Tammy Beaumont and an outstanding three-fer from Charlie Dean.

The hosts whitewashed the visitors in the three-match series with this stunning victory.

Beaumont’s century powers England to a mammoth total

After being put in to bat, England got off to a rollicking start as Emma Lamb and Beaumont added 149 runs for the first wicket.

After toiling hard in the middle, the visitors finally drew the first blood with the experienced Shabnim Ismail castling Lamb in the 23rd over.

However, Beaumont, Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight kept playing their shots fearlessly, not letting the run rate go down. While the opener accomplished her ninth ODI century, Dunkley and Knight hammered 51 and 63 runs, respectively.

If this was not enough, Danielle Wyatt’s assault on Nadine de Klerk in the 44th over rubbed salt in South Africa’s wounds and ensured England a massive total of 371 runs.

All Proteas bowlers were taken to the cleaners, though Ayabonga Khaka emerged as their best bowler with two wickets.

South Africa fall short despite Tryon’s late blitz

Chasing 372 against a formidable English attack was going to be an uphill task for the South Africans. Still, they started their innings on a positive note with Andrie Steyn and Laura Wolvaardt adding 61 runs for the first wicket.

However, Dean spun her web and dismissed both the openers in a quick time. Things went further downhill for the visitors as they lost Sune Luus and Lara Goodall, which left them reeling at 109 for four in 20.2 overs.

Although Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon tried their best to bring their team back on track, the former’s dismissal off Emma Lamb in the 36th over swung the match completely into England’s favour.

Tryon’s heroic 57-ball 70 only reduced the deficit as South Africa were finally bundled out for 262, falling short of the target by 109 runs.

Dean was the chief architect in the second innings of the Proteas’ collapse, picking three wickets for 42 runs.
