  • Ire Vs Nz Skipper Mitchell Santner Praises Glenn Phillips For His Knock In 1St T20i

IRE vs NZ | Skipper Mitchell Santner praises Glenn Phillips for his knock in 1st T20I

New Zealand continued their winning ways, winning their first T20I against Ireland last evening. Glenn Phillips and Lockie Ferguson starred with the bat and ball in their 31-run win.

Phillips, in particular, scored an unbeaten 69 off 52, whereas other batters faltered around him.

The composure he showed was great: Santner

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Santner said, "It wasn't easy but the way Glenn played, the composure he showed was great. It is about trying to build partnerships in the middle, giving the bowlers plenty to work for at the death. The way Neesham and Glenn played was helpful on a niggly wicket.”

Weren't keen on playing him in the nets: Santner

Ferguson, who made his comeback into international cricket after an injury layoff, picked up four wickets that dented the Irish team's chase and also found praise from the skipper.

Santner added, "Lockie (Ferguson) did well, we aren't very keen to play him in the nets but today on a sluggish pitch he showed how good he is with his change of pace, with those leg cutters."

The second match of the series will be on July 20 on Wednesday.
