England Women catered themselves to an easy win in the series-decider against India at Bristol. With the three-match T20I series tied at 1-1, the hosts chased down India’s total with seven wickets and 10 balls to spare.

The English women exhibited supreme methodical approach in all aspects to upstage the silver-medal recipients of the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games.

To start off, interim skipper Amy Jones won the toss and invited her guests to bat first. Jones’ bowlers backed her decision from the outset, dismissing each of India’s top five inside the double-digits.

The ‘Women in Blue’ soon found themselves gasping at 35-5 before lower-order contributions elevated their score to a respectable 122-8. Deepti Sharma scored 24 while Richa Ghosh and Pooja Vastrakar unleashed the finishing fury in the death with sparkling cameos.

Among the English bowlers, star spinner Sophie Ecclestone struck thrice in her four-over spell while Sarah Glenn claimed 2-11 in her three overs.

Later, the hosts launched their response with authority, and overcame more than half of their target within the first 10 overs of their innings. Opener Sophia Dunkley cracked a crafty 49 while number three Alice Capsey guided her side past the finishing line with 38 unbeaten runs.

India’s enigma machine Radha Yadav, with figures of 1-14 off four, contained runs from her end, but received little-to-no support from the new-ball pair. England eventually won the contest with ease and took home the T20I series.

The two sides will now lock horns in the ODI segment of the tour, with first of the three matches slated to be organized at Hove on September 18.
