Marco Jansen climbed eight places to be ranked number 26 in the latest ICC rankings for Test bowlers. Moreover, he also made significant gains in the all-rounders department, jumping six spots to number 12.

The 22-year-old had a stellar outing in England and was one of the standouts for South Africa in their series defeat. The cricketer scored 82 runs with the bat, including a match-winning 48 at Lords. The speedster also collected nine wickets throughout the two Tests he played in the series.

Jansen ascends in rankings, impresses captain Dean Elgar

Jansen made his Test debut in December 2021 with a match against India at Centurion. The left-arm bowler marked an impressive debut, picking the wickets of Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane in a five-wicket match-haul.

In his most recent outing in England, Jansen even made an impact with the bat. Remarkably, his batting average of 27.33 was even higher than some of South Africa’s top-order batters like Sarel Erwee (25.40) and captain Dean Elgar (21.40).

Following the series loss, captain Elgar spoke highly of the emerging all-rounder. While speaking with the reporters, he said:

“He is a massive talent, also young and inexperienced, but I think he has a different mentality to the way he approaches the game, which is nice to have around. Seeing the way he plays; he has got bites of the cherry since he is an all-rounder. So, if the one discipline lets him down, he can sort it out with the other one.”
