ENG vs IND | Jos Buttler outlines positive intent with the bat after comprehensive win at Lord’s

England proved their mettle on Thursday, as Jos Buttler and Co. handed India a massive 100-run defeat in the second ODI at Lord’s. The series is currently level at 1-1, with the decider to be played in Manchester on Sunday.

England captain Jos Buttler believes that Lord’s is always a tricky wicket to bat on, and heaped praise on the batters for putting on a fighting total of 246 runs. The lower order added almost 100 runs to the tally, and continued to counter-attack the bowlers despite losing wickets in succession.

"Today the positivity we showed with the bat is actually what enabled us to get up to the score that we did. I think we can bat better. Absolutely we can, but instead of playing it safe and allowing the bowlers to just settle in on a length, we actually were proactive and played some positive shots, which I think earned us a few extra runs than potentially we may have got,” said Buttler to ESPN Cricinfo.

“There's a hell of a lot of experience in the batting line-up” : Jos Buttler

The skipper added that England have vast experience in their batting line-up, and every single batter has the backing of the dressing room to play their natural game

"That's something we've tried to do as a team for a long time, play with a certain level of intensity and positivity when we bat. We could have got more, but we know that there's a hell of a lot of experience in the batting line-up, and I have so much trust in whoever's in the middle, to make the right call at the time,” the England skipper added.

WI vs BAN: 'Can't make any excuses' - WI bowling coach Roddy Estwick wants concrete plans against spin bowling

West Indies have been completely bamboozled by the Bangladesh spin bowling attack in the ongoing ODI series. The visitors have claimed an unassailable 2-0 series lead after recording a thumping nine-wicket victory on Wednesday. Interestingly, this was also Bangladesh's biggest ODI victory away from home. The hosts were bundled out for a score of less than 150 runs for the second game running. West Indies were bowled out for just 108 runs in the second ODI, with spinners claiming as many as eight wickets. West Indies bowling coach Roddy Estwick has urged his side not to lose their confidence. However, he emphasised on coming up with concrete plans against spin bowling, with an eye on the 50-over World Cup that is less than 15-months away. "Just a week ago we were winning the Test and T20I series but we are 2-0 in the ODI series are obviously very disappointed but you have to try to lift the group. The key is to not allow the confidence to drain out of the group," Estwick told EspnCricinfo. We are still planning for 2023. We know that teams will bowl spin against us. We have to get better at rotating the strike," he added. Estwick has also been left surprised by Bangladesh straying from their regular plan. The visitors won the toss on both occasions, asking the West Indies to put the runs on the board instead of opting to set a target themselves. "Bangladesh put us in both times they won the toss. Normally, Bangladesh likes to set a score to put you under pressure. They have gone away from that due to the surface," Estwick concluded. West Indies will be looking to avoid a clean-sweep as the two sides face each other in the final ODI on Saturday, 16th July. It would also mark the end of a long tour, including match-ups in all three formats. Read More: Tamim Iqbal on ODI series victory against West Indies
