Northamptonshire grabbed an empathic win over Kent in the 42nd fixture of the County Championship Division One. 

The Northampton spinners Simon Kerrigan and Rob Keogh played a crucial part in the second innings as they bagged five wickets each to help their side emerge victorious by 203 runs.

However, Kent skipper Sam Billings who spoke during the post-match conference credited the opposition pacers for setting up the game they did during the third day of the contest.

“I thought their two-seamers were actually brilliant throughout the game and that they were the difference. And losing five for 30 (in the first innings) was always going to be a struggle.”

“All of a sudden, that 30-lead wasn’t enough. They’re a good side, and they just toiled away and got their rewards,” Billings concluded.

Sanderson and White steal the spotlight in the first innings

Ben Sanderson and Jack White were all over the Kent batters in the first innings of the contest as they bagged four wickets each. 

Their streamlined bowling did not allow the opposition to play freely, which added additional pressure on Kent during the second innings.

Kent will look to move from the setback as they face Warwickshire in their upcoming fixture starting July 19.
