The new season of the Ranji Trophy, India’s top domestic cricket tournament, is expected to start from October 15. The domestic season will kick off with the Duleep Trophy, which is returning to its old zonal format, where teams will represent different zones like North, South, East, West, and Central.

Ranji Trophy To Follow Same Structure As Last Season

According to a report by the Times of India, the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy will follow the same structure as last season. The tournament will be played in two phases. The first phase will take place in October and November, where each team will play five matches. Then, attention will shift to two white-ball tournaments, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) in December and the Vijay Hazare Trophy (50-overs) in January.

After these, the second phase of the Ranji Trophy will begin in late January, which will include the final two league matches and all the knockout rounds (quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final).

The Ranji Trophy, started in 1934, is organized every year by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It features teams from different states and regions and is a big platform for players hoping to make it to the Indian national team.

Vidarbha Claim Their Third Ranji Trophy Title

In the 2024–25 season, Vidarbha lifted the trophy after beating Kerala in the final held at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground in Nagpur. The match ended in a draw, but Vidarbha had a 37-run lead in the first innings, which, as per tournament rules, was enough to win them the final.

Karun Nair played a brilliant knock, scoring a century, and along with Danish Malewar, helped build a massive third-innings score. With the total lead going past 400 runs, Kerala decided to shake hands as the result was no longer in doubt.

It was a calm and confident finish by Vidarbha, who wrapped up a dominating season by winning their third Ranji title in seven year.
