Dinesh Karthik, 38 years old, became the talk of the town after his sensational knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 15, 2024, at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter smashed 83 runs in 35 balls with 7 sixes and 4 fours but ended up on the losing side, SRH won the match by 25 runs.

The former CSK player Ambati Rayudu started a new topic of discussion and debate when he chose Dinesh Karthik ahead of Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the role of wicketkeeper-finisher for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rayudu Comments On Karthik's Inclusion In The World Cup Squad

Ambati Rayudu opined that selectors and team management should consider Dinesh Karthik as the first choice for the number-one keeper, not Rishabh Pant. He also added that pitches in the USA and West Indies will be slow and will support DK's playing style and current form

He also added that Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are playing up the order for their respective franchises in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), but on the Dinesh Karthik is playing down the order for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

He believes that Dinesh Karthik is the best choice for the role of the finisher and should be included in the T20 World Cup Squad.

“Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and Sanju Samson are playing in the top order. Only Dinesh Karthik is batting in the lower order. Scoring runs in the death overs is challenging, but DK has done it successfully. “The pitches in the West Indies and USA will be slow in nature and India need DK to counter attack. He still has in him to play for India. I feel he should be there in the squad,” Ambati Rayudu said.

Dinesh Karthik is in some exceptional form in the Indian Premier League 2024, till now the wicket-keeper batter has scored 226 runs in 7 innings with an explosive strike rate of 205.45.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play its next fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21, 2024, at the Eden Gardens.
