Team India's captain, Rohit Sharma along with BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agarkar held a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, May 2nd. In the much-awaited presser, the two discussed upon the recently announced India's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Numerous questions were sprung upon the duo regarding the squad especially regarding the exclusion of KL Rahul and the vice-captaincy of Hardik Pandya. But another intriguing question that was put forward by the media was regarding the Playing XI.

In response to this question, Rohit Sharma replied by saying that there team composition was mainly focused on the middle order and the players who could help boosting the total especially during the middle overs. He further expressed that they wanted someone who could bat freely without too much pressures and hence, picked none other than Shivam Dube.

Here's what he said:

"One thing we looked at was middle overs hitting. Our top order hitting hasn't been bad. In the middle overs, we wanted someone who can play freely. We picked Shivam Dube based on what he has done in the IPL and what he has done in a few games before that."

Shivam Dube has been big strength for the Chennai Super Kings contingent, one season after another, ever since his debut in CSK in 2022 he has amassed a total of 1407 runs from 37 innings. He has been a powerful force to reckon with in this IPL season too, especially because of his ability to anchor an innings.

Before the beginning of IPL 2024, Shivam Dube was also part of Team India for Afghanistan Tour of India, where his explosive batting earned him a Player of the Match award and he also scored back to back fifties with a strike rate of over 150.

It would be interesting to see the combination that Rohit Sharma decides to go forward with in the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to begin from 2nd June. India will begin their campaign from 5th June against Ireland in New York.
