Delhi Premier League Women 2024 season to start in September (X.com)
The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 is set to debut this year in both men’s and women’s formats. Accordingly, for the women’s version, the squads were announced earlier this week.
With a bid to compete with the local state tournaments, DDCA launched the Delhi Premier League (DPL), a T20 format inter-teams tournament. For the women’s version, four team owners from the men’s league secured the rights for the women’s franchises as well in a full fledged auction.
For the inaugural season of DPL, four teams namely East Delhi Riders, Central Delhi Queens, North Delhi Strikers and South Delhi Superstars will compete in a total of seven games starting from September 2. The final was played on September 8 with Arun Jaitely stadium being the common venue for the entire tournament.
Recently full squads for DPL 2024 season were announced and Shweta Sehrawat, the former vice captain of India’s 2023 U-19 World Cup team, and Indian senior wicket-keeper Priya Punia turned out to be the top picks. While South Delhi secured Shweta, Punia will play for East Delhi.
Another UP Warriorz wicket-keeper, Laxmi Yadav, is set to feature in the Central Delhi squads, whereas fast bowlers Soni Yadav and Ayushi Soni went to North Delhi.
