Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for February. The 22-year-old became the fifth Australian cricketer to bag the honour, thus joining an illustrious list of players featuring the likes of Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner.

Sutherland, currently in India for the WPL 2024 season, expressed her excitement about winning the honour and also reflected on her performance against South Africa Women in Australia’s one-off home Test match in February at Perth.

Annabel Sutherland bags Player of the Month

Annabel Sutherland defeated UAE players Esha Oza and Kavisha Egodage to win the ICC Player of the Month award.

She became the fifth Australian cricketer to win the prestigious label after Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes, Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardner.

Upon winning her maiden player of the month award, Sutherland said:

“It’s a massive honour to be named the Player of the Month and a nice way to cap off a successful home summer for the team. South Africa are always a strong opponent and to be able to perform against them in a home Test is something I’m proud of. Test cricket is always a highlight and to have been able to contribute toward winning that match was really special.”

Annabel Sutherland bludgeoned her Test-best 210 off just 256 balls against South Africa at the WACA in Perth in February. She also seized five wickets across both innings, thus headlining Australia’s win by an innings and 284 runs.

Apart from her sole Test outing, the 22-year-old Australian player claimed a couple of South African wickets spanning three ODI innings to finish her month with 229 runs and seven scalps across all international formats.

Annabel Sutherland is currently in India as part of the Delhi Capitals unit in the ongoing WPL season. While she is yet to replicate her burgeoning all-round form for the franchise, Meg Lanning and co. became the first team of the competition to qualify for the playoffs. They will now face cellar-dwellers Gujarat Giants in their final match of the tournament.
