DC Owner Parth Jindal Lambasted Third Umpire After Controversial No-Ball Call in PBKS vs DC

A major controversy erupted during the fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. It was a do-or-die situation for PBKS as they were desperate for a win to stay on track for the playoffs race. Whereas, DC were playing more or less for their pride and wanted to end their disastrous season on a high.

The incident came to light during the fourth ball of the last over. Ishant Sharma bowled a waist-high full toss to Liam Livingstone, which was adjudged as a waist-high no-ball by the on-field umpire. And to rub salt in their wounds, that ball went all the way for a six which significantly brought the required rate down. DC skipper David Warner was enraged with this call and decided to review it right away.

The ball tracking replay revealed that the ball passed above the waist height. Furthermore, Livingstone was also crouching on his knees whilst he was playing the shot. Nevertheless, the TV umpire decided to persist with the on-field umpire's verdict and the no-ball call remained.

It was surely a very tight call which could have gone either way. One can understand the great difficulty that the umpires can be in whilst making these tight calls. But as far as the consistency was concerned, fans including commentator Harsha Bhogle were visibly baffled by the call.

Following the conclusion of the match, Bhogle took to Twitter to call out a possible erroneous blunder from the third umpire and called for more consistency in future games.

His tweet immediately got a response from DC owner Parth Jindal who echoed with him and questioned the logic behind the dubious no-ball call.

This is not the first time it has surfaced. During the 58th match of the ongoing IPL season between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants there was another no-ball saga during the first innings which turned so violent that it attracted a massive backlash from the crowd.

Nevertheless, despite the use of technology, the decision-making hasn’t been consistent in the ongoing IPL edition, and umpiring has once again become a negative focus point for all the wrong reasons.
