New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has confirmed that it is keeping a close eye on the security of its players who are already participating in the IPL and PSL. This comes after India launched 'Operation Sindoor' in response to a terror attack that killed people in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22, 2025.
The operation aimed to target terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), a move that has raised an eye on the security of international players in the area.
Several New Zealand players are part of teams in both leagues, and their well-being has become a top priority for NZC.
New Zealand Players To Pull Out Of IPL?
The Cricket Board of New Zealand has acknowledged that rising tensions between India and Pakistan have forced them to review the safety of their players featuring in the IPL in India and the PSL in Pakistan, as both leagues are running simultaneously.
Among the Kiwi players in IPL 2025 are Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Trent Boult, Bevon Jacobs, and Mitchell Santner.
Those in PSL 2025 include Kane Williamson, Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Colin Munro, Daryl Mitchell, Tim Seifert, Mark Chapman, and Kyle Jamieson.
In a statement to 1News, NZC said:
“NZ Cricket is aware of the relevant reports. We continue to assess the security environment for our players and coaching staff in all overseas environments to ensure they're in receipt of the most updated advice. This includes our national men's A team in Bangladesh, and New Zealanders involved in both the IPL and the PSL. These security assessments are current and ongoing.”
India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Army and Air Force officers presented videos and details on precision strikes at a press conference. They made sure that terror camps only were struck and no military bases or civilian locations were hit.
Indian Cricketers Laud Army After 'Operation Sindoor’
Cricketers across all of India came together in appreciation of the armed forces following 'Operation Sindoor,' a massive cross-border operation that killed over 80 terrorists in Pakistan and PoK.
Led by Gautam Gambhir, who posted “Jai Hind!” on X, the cricketing world echoed sentiments of patriotism and solidarity. Virender Sehwag, Pragyan Ojha, Aakash Chopra, and Varun Chakravarthy also celebrated the army’s decisive action.
