The Sanju Samson to CSK saga has dragged on for a couple of months, but it seems a final decision has been made from the players' side. Reportedly, the RR skipper, Samson, requested the franchise to either release him or trade him ahead of next year's IPL season. The Royals have made no official decision, but it seems the player could be on his way out.
According to Cricbuzz, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are interested in acquiring his services for the next season and could make a move for him ahead of the mini auction. In the history of IPL, CSK have only been involved in one trade deal, and ironically, RR was involved in it.
When CSK traded Robin Uthappa from RR
Ahead of the IPL 2021 season, the MS Dhoni-led CSK decided to enter the trade market as they decided to bring in Robin Uthappa from the Royals in an all-cash deal, worth INR 3 crore. Uthappa only played for the Royals for one season, as CSK came calling, and the batter switched his team.
CSK needed a top order player after the departure of Shane Watson, and the franchise went after the Karnataka batter in a trade deal.
How Uthappa fared for the Super Kings?
Robin Uthappa had an interesting IPL 2021 season for the Super Kings. Despite being a prolific batter in IPL history, the right-handed batter hardly played a game for the franchise, featuring in just 4 matches.
He failed in his first two matches and was dropped from the team. However, the veteran batter found his form and was crucial in CSK's title success that season, as he smacked 63 off 44 in Qualifier 1, followed by a quick-fire 31 off 15 to help the team win the IPL title.
