Ahead of the all-important ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has added several key personnel to the national team's coaching staff. Former captain Stephen Fleming, England's ex-keeper James Foster, will join the likes of Ian Bell and Saqlain Mushtaq and will be part of a rotating entourage of coaches for away tours.

Both Fleming and Foster bring a wealth of experience with successful coaching stints in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Fleming also worked with the New Zealand T20I side prior to the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, where the Black Caps finished as runners-up.

Foster has worked with Kolkata Night Riders in the IPL, and also assisted New Zealand in 2018 during UAE tour. The wicketkeeper will New Zealand's assistant coach during ODIs against England, and also be part of World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, former England batter Bell will work with the Kiwis during T20I series against England, and also join the staff as batting coach for the ODIs, filling in for Luke Ronchi.

Speaking about Fleming, current head coach Gary Stead welcomed the former batting star into the staff.

Here's what Stead said

"I think Flem will be great for players on that side of it and also good for the staff as well. He's got [an] immense amount of knowledge in that part of the world [India] and has coached in the IPL right from the start of the competition [from 2009], so he's coached in all those areas where we're going to play in. So, it might just be the little one-two percenters you can get from that information that could tip the results on your side as well. If things go well you can pick up on some of those small things."

Meanwhile, Mushtaq, who worked with New Zealand's during their Pakistan tour, earlier this year will rejoin the Test side in Bangladesh post World Cup 2023, and will fill in for Stead, who will be given a break.
