Chennai Super Kings (CSK) slipped to a 25-run defeat against Delhi Capitals in match number 17 of the IPL 2025 season on Saturday, April 5. Chasing 184 for a win, the CSK managed to accrue just 158-5 from 20 overs after crashing to 74-5 at one stage of the match.
While CSK’s lifeless pursuit in the game drew the ire of many fans and cricketing experts, it also seems to have mirrored the mood in the dugout, quite literally, as one of their players was spotted dozing off during the tense run-chase.
Uncapped star Vansh Bedi sleeps in the dugout
Chasing 184, CSK lost both Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad inside the first three overs of the innings. With CSK’s chase struggling to take off, fans spotted uncapped CSK star Vansh Bedi sleeping next to veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the dugout.
The moment was captured on television when CSK reached 32-2 in 4.4 overs, and required 152 more runs for a victory off the remaining 92 balls.
CSK’s intent in the run-chase drew much criticism from fans and followers of the franchise. After slipping to 74-5 around the halfway stage of the innings, Vijay Shankar and MS Dhoni shared 84 runs for the sixth wicket, but at a pace significantly slower than the asking rate at the time.
The 25-run defeat marked CSK’s third loss in a row this IPL 2025 season, as they slipped to ninth position on the 10-team points table with a solitary win from four games at a dismal NRR of -0.891. They will now face Punjab Kings on April 8 in Mullanpur.
