Craig Williams Appointed Head Coach Of Namibia Men’s Team Ahead Of 2027 World Cup

In a significant development, Cricket Namibia has appointed former Namibian international Craig Williams as the new head coach of the men’s national team. The legendary all-rounder replaced Pierre de Bruyn ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The Legend Returns

Craig Williams, a crafty all-rounder, made his debut for the Richelieu Eagles back in 2007 and has been instrumental in Namibian cricket growth over the years. His experience and leadership contributed significantly to Namibia's rise in international cricket, including their historic maiden appearance at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021.

Williams also played a key role in guiding his side to a historic first bilateral series victory over Full Member Zimbabwe back in 2022, marking a major milestone in Namibian cricket history. He then called it a day in 2022, retiring from all forms of cricket and now back with the side as a coach.

Namibia Sets Sight on 2027 World Cup Dream

The CEO of Cricket Namibia, Johan Muller, was delighted to announce Craig Williams as the new man in charge of the men’s team, praising his world-class cricketing expertise. Muller highlighted Williams’ deep understanding of Namibian cricket and culture, gained through years of representing the nation at the highest level.

"Appointing Craig Williams as the new head coach of the FNB Eagles marks an exciting new chapter for our men’s national team. Craig brings not only world-class cricketing expertise but a deep understanding of our players, our culture, and our ambitions,” Muller said.

Muller further highlighted Namibia's future ambition to secure a fourth consecutive T20 World Cup qualification and prepare strongly for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which they will co-host. And Williams experience and leadership make him the ideal figure to lead them in these upcoming projects.
